Office Food Drive

From now until mid December, we will be having a non-perishable food drive to support Anna's House. Anna's House has been providing support and food for those in need in the Indianapolis area. Since 2005, no one has had to stand in the cold or guess where to go to receive assistance. Anna's House, (named after Anna Molloy) opened its doors to help service the needs of our community.

We are asking patients and their families to help in any way possible. Items collected include non-perishable foods such as jelly, peanut butter, canned fruits, vegetables, soups, pasta & meats, crackers, beans, cereal, etc. as well as toiletry items (i.e. toilet paper, shampoo, toothpaste, diapers, soap, detergent, etc.).

Sondhi-Biggs Orthodontics will match any and all donations made to our office. Thank you in advance for all your support and contributions.

With the approaching holiday we just want to pass on a friendly reminder.... Don't forget to stay away from the hard, sticky and chewy candy. Remember to be safe and watch for goblins and ghouls.

Flu Season

When most people think of the flu, they fear the symptoms of fever, chills, sore throat and muscle aches. While the flu is no picnic, for most people a few days in bed, a lot of hot fluids and some over the counter medicines for symptom relief are enough to weather a moderate case. Yet, for some people, the flu presents a serious threat. Each year hundreds of thousands of people die from the flu worldwide.

Influenza outbreaks generally occur during the winter months, some believe this is because people spend more time indoors and in close contact during these months. Due to the fact that winter occurs at different times in the northern and southern hemispheres, there are two flu seasons each year. Since the flu virus mutates so easily, it is possible for a new strain to evolve between two seasons. To combat these strains, millions of people see their doctor or some type of health clinic to get a flu shot. While not foolproof, these vaccinations are the only effective method for flu prevention.

Pink for October

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you are not a breast cancer survivor, chances are you know someone who has had breast cancer or is currently being treated for breast cancer. No one (including men, although breast cancer in men is till considered quite rare) is immune to breast cancer. You don't have to have a family history to get breast cancer. Sondhi Biggs Orthodontics supports the efforts in finding a cure for breast cancer.

2010 Answers for Autism Walk

On Saturday, September 18, 2010, the 10th annual Answers for Autism Walk will take place. So far, over $40,000.00 in donations has been collected. The 1 mile walk will be held at Coxhall Gardens in Carmel, Indiana. In recent studies, as many as 1 out of every 90 babies born today will be on the autistic spectrum. Autism is now one of the most common developmental disorders. There is no known, or proven cure for Autism. Though various treatments may provide some children with relative relief, current research is limited, due to the lack of available funds.

Fall is just around the corner

With Fall just around the corner, remember to be careful with caramel apples and other Halloween treats that could damage orthodontic appliances. Damaged appliances could cause delays in treatment and unnecessary repair appointments. Have a great Fall!
